We barely even made it to the hospital! He was born on November 10th 2006 @ 5:53am, weighing 5 pounds and 0.5 ounce. He is 18 inches long.

First I had my Diabetes Clinic and Ultrasound. Thing 2 weighs approximately 5½ pounds give or take 15 ounces. Basically he hasn’t grown much in the past two weeks but he has grown so that’s all that counts. I did have a bit of a beef with the dietician though which had me spitting fire. You see, I am a smoker. Am I smoking now, no, but that doesn’t mean I don’t think about it. It’s not something I’m necessarily proud of but it is what it is you know? Anyway, the dietician gives me the whole “you shouldn’t smoke because…” lecture which is totally fine but then she crossed the line. It started off by her giving me this lecture not in private but in front of a room full of people. The part that really got me though is 3 things she said. She said I should see a psychiatrist for addiction counselling, I should consider moving since I have smoking neighbors and end my friendship with them, and the killer was she thinks it’s best that I tell my mother not to come for Thing 2′s birth or after since she is a smoker and may make me want to smoke. WHAT??? I get that it’s an addiction that I need to avoid but move and avoid my mother?? That’s a bit much.

Thing 2 has now officially outgrown his big brother. His estimated weight right now is 5 pounds!! Isn’t that amazing? I’m shocked and thrilled all at once!!

  1. open up stabbing device and insert lancet
  2. close device and cock it
  3. fish test strip out of a tiny container and put it in the machine
  4. hold stabbing device against a finger (there are other test spots you can use but because of low blood pressure, fingers seem to be the only place that bleeds enough for me)
  5. press button and feel annoyed once stabbed
  6. squeeze out a drop of blood for the test strip
  7. every five tests strips or so one drop won’t do it and it seems to want what feels like a litre of it
  8. wait for results and pray the machine doesn’t say try again (go back step 1)
  9. read results, laugh, put strip and used lancet in trash

Well at least according to Hubby’s family anyway. At Thanksgiving dinner, any time I was asked how I was my answer was simply “done“. Whenever I said this to anyone the answer was always the same. It was “But you still have three and a half months to go“. Am I an elephant? Correct me if I am wrong here but even if I go overdue the maximum anyone will let me stay pregnant for is two months. Am I mistaken here? I’m pretty sure they aren’t going to keep me pregnant until almost February.

It’s amazing how closer to the end every day seems to drag by. Even the implication of it lasting longer makes me panic.

I really do appreciate this pregnancy more than you’ll ever know, I guess I just hoped it would go a little more smoothly. I’ve just been taken aback by all the stress it has been. I thought after Thing 1 that this one had to be a piece of cake. I don’t think hormones help either.
