No Title Can Do This One Justice

I don’t even know where to start with this one.

Yesterday all the girls in the house were having a nap and the boys were doing their own thing.  While feeding the dogs and cat a very late breakfast, Thing 2 took a spill.  He was walking up the basement stairs  and was about 6 stairs up (and wearing his brothers shoes).  The hubby turned around for a split second and all of the sudden there was our son lying on the basement floor.  It is unfinished and he tripped under the railing landing head first on the concrete.

We really felt it was simply bumped and bruised but wanted him to be looked at just in case.  The hubby took him in and I stayed back with Things 1 & 3.

About an hour later my husband phone saying they had sedated him for a CT scan.  They suspected a concussion.  While this would have completely sucked, looking back I wish it was.

A few minutes later the phone rang again.  It was not a concussion, his skull was fractured.  From this point on a lot of it is a blur.  A pediatric neurosurgeon was being rushed in and surgery was imminent.

I dropped the phone at this point and screamed a few choice words.  My brain instantly turned off.  Fortunately my neighbours were with me and took over.  They took in the other kids and took me to the hospital.  On the way I was trying to call my parents and my Father-in-law except I’d hold the phone to my head without dialing and couldn’t figure out why it wouldn’t ring.

Once at the hospital it was really hard to see him like this.  By this point the swelling was obvious and his ear was no where near where it should be.  Another scan was preformed and it showed there was no bleeding into his brain so surgery was called off unless things changed.

I stayed the night and wanted the hubby to sleep.  There is no use having us both burned out and I had more rest up until that point.  Cognitive Assessments were done every half hour all night.  He passed with flying colours.  He was not allowed to do anything other than lay down.  He’s a total trooper.  He peed all over us both overnight but I’ll still take it you know?

In the morning I was SHOCKED when a nurse came in and told us he had been discharged.  What?  I am so not cool with that yet here we are now at home.

I’m trusting my Mommy gut and we may be back there again tonight.  He’s still in good shape except he won’t stop throwing up.  If we don’t bring him back we have an appointment with our family Doctor bright and early in the morning so we can see what to do then.

***UPDATE***
He is on his way back to the hospital.  While he is mentally ok, he will not stop throwing up.

Please send prayers.
