A Wiggly Good Time

Our week has been crazy! I’m glad it’s over anyway. It all started last Sunday and has been a roller coaster since.

Just before Thanksgiving we were told something was up with Hubby’s Grandma. The has always been the most ‘with it’ older woman I’ve ever met. She was in her mid 80′s but acted like she was young. We were told that out of no where she has dementia and likely won’t even know who we are. We were floored by this news. The day after Thanksgiving she went into the hospital. She was diagnosed with low sodium.

It sounds simple enough, just add sodium via IV and she’s come back. Maybe she drinks too much water, it’s actually quite common when you become elderly. Grandma was dehydrated so nope, that’s not it. What is causing the low sodium then? It turns out that Grandma has lymphoma & colon cancer. We knew the outcome so we decided for no further testing so she could enjoy the time she has left. By not receiving further testing and moving her to Palliative Care we can’t find out how much time we have left. It could be the next day or it could be years.

Last Sunday we were called to come say goodbye.

Monday she fell into coma.

She passed Wednesday.

It was decided to get everything done and over with quickly so we don’t make it worse than it already is. Thursday evening was the viewing and Friday morning was the service. We said goodbye placed her in between her husband and her daughter (Hubby’s Mom).

Needless to say we needed a pick me up. Friday night our neighbours hosted a Hallowe’en party. Hubby and I were a little too intoxicated but damned if we didn’t feel far more relaxed.

Saturday morning was brutal. We both woke up bright and early with the boys nursing some pretty bad hangovers. We were determined to enjoy the day regardless as it was Hubby’s birthday (Happy Birthday love). We hung out together at home most of the day and decided to go out to dinner. Wasn’t that a disaster. I spent most of the meal in the bathroom feeling green (I can’t vomit but still lurch – but that’s another post) and Thing 1 had a major meltdown. Screaming, arms flailing, the whole bit. Ahh, how fun that was. Great dinner. We were EXHAUSTED!

Today was the day Thing 1 has been crossing off on his calendar for 3 months now. We went and saw The Wiggles. He was so excited! He danced and was just beaming! He did also pee his pants twice but I’m determined to ignore that and not let it spoil the memory of the day. We took the train into the city, saw the show, went to the Old Spaghetti Factory for dinner then took the train home.

The show was awesome. It was weird seeing Sam instead of Greg but both boys enjoyed themselves.
