You’re Kidding Me Right?

So I wake up this morning after having missed a phone call. Hubby sends me an email to check our voice mail because there is a message from our OBGYN’s office. I listen to the message and have been laughing in hysterics all day. Now the message itself was anything other than funny, it was more ironic than anything. Let me rewind…
Three weeks ago I had an appointment with my OBGYN. She gave me a requisition for some blood work. Just the usual stuff that they check at this point. No big deal. I put it off since it wasn’t all that big of a deal. When I had my spotting a week later she asked if I had it done yet. We both agreed that there was no rush but to have it done before my appointment this coming Thursday. I went in late last week to have it done so that the results would be there by my appointment.
Leading up to the blood work I was cracking jokes with my husband. The biggest thing I joked about was the test for Gestational Diabetes. We have been struggling to prevent IUGR in this pregnancy and GD usually means a larger than normal baby. I was still going to take the test but what a waste of time!! Although I had been kidding around I also said countless times that I would fail it just because that’s the last thing we’d expect.
You see where I’m going with this right?
The message was to tell me that I did indeed fail my 1 hour Glucose Tolerance test. The results were borderline so I will have to fast and be retested over a longer period of time (oh joy). I’m hoping that doesn’t mean that there are some size issues and being masked by the possible GD. I suppose that will get discussed this Thursday.
I was also told that my Hemoglobin is disturbingly low. That’s not a shock since I struggle with this even when I am not pregnant. I was told to take an extra Iron supplement on top of my prenatals. The problem is I already do. I take the maximum amount of Iron I can take for my body weight. I guess we’ll have to discuss that on Thursday too.
It wouldn’t be me without some kinks would it? I’m not overly worried about it all and can’t help but to laugh.
