Our last 24 hours has had a lot happen so I am going to jam it all into one big post.
Thing 1′s Hearing Assessment
Our first step in getting a real conversation out of this boy is complete. Only one parent was allowed into the exam so Hubby, if I’ve made any mistakes correct me please.
He reacted to nearly all the frequencies except for high pitched ones. It’s hard to say for sure if he was just done with the exam and didn’t care anymore or if he couldn’t hear them. When I was young (and likely still now) I could not hear high pitched noises either and it doesn’t affect my every day life at all now. If I had never had a test I would have never even suspected it. If it does turn out to be the case for Thing 1 I am far from worried. She also noted that he has smaller than average ear canals which again could mean nothing but it’s hard to say for sure since he can’t complain about things.
Every time she asked him things through the microphone such as where is this or that he pointed etc… so it’s pretty promising that his hearing is fine. What she is going to suggest to our Doctor is to proceed now as if hearing is normal but retest him a little later on when he’s a bit older. All in all the results are good.
The Closet
Thing 1 has a new obsession. He seems to find a closet in every room that has one then hides in it. (Place joke about my son being ‘in the closet’ here). He thinks of them as forts I suppose. We are going to have to get a lock for the one in his room because he keeps moving to it in the middle of the night. We move him back into bed but very shortly afterwards we hear a big *SLAM* so we know where he is.
Last night we went to bed quite late (which I will get into in a minute) and when I went to check on him before we went to sleep his room appeared empty. I knew where he was so I left the room and grabbed the camera. I called Hubby in to come move him. In the pictures below the room is dark we just have a good camera. We came into his room, opened the closet door and found this;
Other Stuff
What are the friggen odds? The town I grew up with is very tiny. Less than 16,000 people. So my group of friends there is small but very close knit. When I was 19 one of my friends became pregnant. This friend actually sees this blog so I will wave hi to S. It wasn’t planned so needless to say there were no fertility drugs used. She had identical girls. That in itself is rare enough. Fast forward to another friend. I won’t even give her initial as she hasn’t told anyone she is pregnant yet except me since I ran into her online when I was still trying and needless to say we couldn’t exactly keep it secret from each other anymore. Well this friend became pregnant shortly after I did but sadly lost the baby. On her second cycle after her D&C she became pregnant again. The other day she was cramping (and still is) badly and feared another miscarriage and went to the ER. They did an ultrasound and said to see her midwife for the results but that they did find 2 corpus luteum cysts on her ovaries. Now I know enough about anatomy and baby making where I had my suspicions. Having one cyst is normal but 2 usually means 2 eggs. Well her midwife calls her yesterday and said she saw the ultrasound and the babies are fine. My friends almost fainted as she didn’t see that coming at all. What are the odds of two friends in a very tiny group to have conceived twins naturally?
If you are squeamish, don’t read the next paragraph.
Wednesday night our neighbours across the street had a maggot infestation. We were so grossed out that despite it being a day early we took our garbage out. Our garage was just fine but we wanted to be safe. Last night we were about to go to bed at midnight but Hubby checked the garage first to make sure everything was gone and to bring out anything we accumulated that day (diapers etc..). Remember there was no garbage in our garage. He opened the garage door and it was a wall of white. We were up until 2am cleaning it out. Well he cleaned and I tried to not look. I don’t understand for a second how it happened so fast and what they thought they were going to eat in there. All I know is no rice for me for awhile.
