Puke

My previous post was all about crap so I thought I’d carry on the grossness. Today’s post can be all about the other end of business.

Thing 1 was quite cranky yesterday evening. This is trademark behaviour of him when he is constipated and I totally expected him to wake up an hour or so after he fell asleep, have his crap and be done with it. We were sitting outside last night with our neighbours (yes I know I’m on bedrest, but I figured sitting on a chair outside was not really any different than sitting on my couch) and I had the monitor with me waiting for him to cry. Sure enough about an hour later he started crying. Hubby was off with the guys and I didn’t bother getting him as changing a diaper is no big deal. I don’t need to lift for that… WRONG!

I get to his room and right off the bat I realized I was wrong. It stunk in there and I look over and my poor little boy is throwing up. Despite my restrictions I scooped him up and we went for a tub. We were both covered in puke by this point. I ran the bath and let him puke it up and cleaned him off. He was quite happy in the tub so I let him stay there for a while. I eventually decided he absolutely had to get out as he was looking like a raisin. He had a tantrum but I distracted him by letting him look out the window.

Hubby came home at this point so while I was distracting Thing 1 he stripped Thing 1′s bed and re-made it. Thing 1 was so tired by this point he could barely stay awake but his stomach was so upset he couldn’t stop crying. We practically had to force medicine into the little guy but I think he was glad we did. He woke up once more in the middle of the night but did get his sleep.

This morning he willingly took his medicine and was in a great mood until it wore off. He would spit it out when we tried later so even now at 11pm he is a nightmare (he won’t sleep longer than in half hour stretches). His fever is not painfully high so I am ok with letting him try to sleep it off but I will have to force medicine again at some point. Maybe by tomorrow morning he’ll feel better.

Thing 1 doesn’t get sick very often and that almost makes me feel worse for him as he has no idea what is going on. Poor guy. I’m sure he’ll be back to himself in no time though. At that point Hubby and I will catch up on our sleep.
