Annoyed but not Worried

The new routine of my life consists of doing the following four times a day… at least;

  1. open up stabbing device and insert lancet
  2. close device and cock it
  3. fish test strip out of a tiny container and put it in the machine
  4. hold stabbing device against a finger (there are other test spots you can use but because of low blood pressure, fingers seem to be the only place that bleeds enough for me)
  5. press button and feel annoyed once stabbed
  6. squeeze out a drop of blood for the test strip
  7. every five tests strips or so one drop won’t do it and it seems to want what feels like a litre of it
  8. wait for results and pray the machine doesn’t say try again (go back step 1)
  9. read results, laugh, put strip and used lancet in trash

Oh that routine is oh so fun. My fingers are killing me. I wouldn’t mind so much if I didn’t feel it was a waste of time. You see, they want to see my results under the following;

  • Before Breakfast (fasting): under 5.3
  • One hour after eating: under 7.8
  • Two hours after eating: under 6.5

Mine have been in the range between 2.5 and 5.5 at any given time, even after a chocolate torte. I haven’t changed my diet one bit either. This is great because it means despite my GTT results I don’t show any signs of GD. It’s bad because I still am stuck stabbing myself and having a dietitian criticize what I eat and don’t eat.

Only a few more weeks right?

  2. Chrissy says:

    Hang in there. You are almost there! I’m not sure if you got my comment on the name change but I love it!

  3. Denise says:

    Saying hi and that I’m still around. I’m sorry the GD testing is a PITA!

  4. Lori says:

    I’m still keeping up with you! Just don’t have time to comment sometimes! I’m glad that your levels are are staying where they should.

    HI Erin, I am still checking in on you regularly :) I am glad things are going ok…it’s nice to hear that your numbers are low. I am sure it’s a pain to deal with the GD stuff but you’re almost there. (((((hugs)))))

  6. Leslie says:

    Erin, I’m reading up on you! I was going to post a “how are you doing” on the board, but decided to check your blog first. Sorry you have to deal with the GD stuff. Only a few more weeks! Hugs!

  7. Jenn says:

    Hi Erin,
    I too suffered from GD and yet had a very tiny 6 lbs. baby and no abnormal blood sugar readings. It was very frustrating and made me quite angry. Just feeling your pain.

  8. Jenn says:

    Forgot to add that my baby was “tiny” because I’m 5’11 and hubby’s 6’3. It’s just all so ironic really.

    I usually just lurk on blogs. For a while, some that I actually commented on had the URLs changed and I got paranoid :-) Just keep telling yourself you’re almost done, because you really are!! Hang in there (((hugs)))
