32½ Week Appointment & Diabetes Consult

There is a lot to digest so please bear with me. I’ll likely leave a lot out too but not intentionally.

The Diabetes Consult
I met with a Nurse, a Doctor, a Dietitian and an Ultrasound Tech. The Nurse took my weight and blood pressure, both of which were good. Next was the Dietitian. I was nervous about this part because of my stomach issues. Turns out the diet is nearly identical to how I do things now so the only real modifications I will have to do will be depending on what my blood sugars do in reaction to whatever foods. I do have a feeling I will get lectured for not eating enough if anything. She’ll know too as I have to keep a food diary.

Next was the Doctor. She is part of the clinic and not my regular OB. She had my results there and said they were borderline. She said my OB noted that she would have counted it as a pass but since she had a previous pregnancy to compare it to that she chose not to. The doctor also said I shouldn’t have any problem at all controlling my numbers and feels it’s likely only off in the morning. Her words (jokingly) were “Give up that bowl of ice cream and you’ll be fine“. She doesn’t even want me to go overboard on blood sugar monitoring. She wants a base number first thing in the morning and to take one an hour after each major meal. That’s it.

I wasn’t expecting an ultrasound but I guess I will be getting one often to monitor growth. They don’t want him getting too big. My OB giggled about this but I will get to that after. Well Thing 2 is small for his dates but still well within average. No red flags as Hubby and I aren’t big people (5′2 & 5′4) and petite so hardly anything to worry about. He is approximately 3 pounds 12 ounces right now. This is almost Thing 1’s birth weight at term so it’s great news. Thing 2 also seems to be an early breather. She wouldn’t expect to see it for another couple of weeks yet but he’s doing the motions now. It’s also official, I have dropped. I don’t look it but did notice hiccups getting more intimate so I wasn’t shocked when she said this.

32½ Week Check-up
It was a pretty basic appointment overall so that’s good. My fundal height is 31 centimeters and matches perfectly to the ultrasound I had an hour prior. Basically behind but within reason. This is where the appointment got fun… literally. Knowing Thing 1’s outcome ended up good we could laugh about this now. We were both in hysterics, even with tears laughing so hard about how it is just so funny that I am diabetic now and there is a risk of a big baby? What the hell is that all about? She said I’m one of those patients she will never ever forget. She was so scared about Thing 1’s size and now all of this? She said regardless she doesn’t expect I will have a child over 7 pounds but time will tell as she refuses to rule anything out with me. I then asked that if I do go overdue how long will she let me go. She said December 10th. I said over and over how Thing 2 may not be ready but I so am now. She said she wishes she could help me but is sure I understand why she can’t. I do of course understand but that doesn’t mean I don’t still want him out. I’m struggling every day to stay patient.
